Hello, I am ...

Usman Farooq

I am a software engineer, mentor, and a student with the keen interest in building software, solving complex problems, and occasionally breaking things along the way. I enjoy designing scalable system architectures, often over-engineering them to the point of absurdity.

During my career

I have built products ranging from ecommerce websites to complex enterprise apps with focus on delivering fast, scalable, and elegant code along with delightful user interfaces.

Now

I currently work as a software engineer at Dubizzle, where I focus on backend design and development, as well as mentoring new engineers.

Working as a Backend Engineer in the Jobs team, striving to make recruiters’ lives easier. I primarily build new features, occasionally break old ones, ensure overall system stability (still not sure though!), and scale existing features, including APIs, platforms, and databases.

    • Led the migration of Dubizzle’s Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to a new platform, integrating OpenSearch and a microservices framework, which increased scalability by 30% and improved operational efficiency by 15%.
    • Developed hiring pipeline and candidate relevancy features for Dubizzle’s ATS, streamlining recruiters’ processes and enabling quicker hiring of suitable candidates.
    • Develop new features and continuously monitor applications to identify and fix bottlenecks and bugs, ensuring optimal system performance.
